Seven Hallmarks
Hallmark One: We proclaim by our lives even more than by our words that God is good
My first article is a spray bottle and a rosary. These two articles go hand in hand with one another and it is significant because it is the first time my roommate and I truly spent the whole day together and bonded. We are very close but this day brought us even closer by connecting on a spiritual level. The spray bottle was filled with holy water that we so graciously asked for from the Dorothy Stang Center. I included this in my portfolio since it is one of the most taking away experiences of my college career. I am a spiritual person and love that I have God with me every day but I have not journeyed in my faith since I have been here at college. Neither have I ever experienced my faith with another person. These resemblances of God are very important to me.
The rosary and holy water belong in this section because my roommate and I not only held God in our hearts but we acted on our faith. There had been a few spiritual occurrences that frightened my roommate and I so we decided to act on our faith. We received the holy water and proceeded to bless our entire hall and room. We went around spraying each person and praying over them to make sure they felt the presence of God within them. After we participated in this new awakening, the spiritual occurrences have not come back and our hall mates have an even better spiritual connection. This belongs in the section since we not only talked to others about God but we used the rules of the Church and the gifts from the church to help other feel blessed.
Hallmark Two: We honor the dignity and sacredness of each person
My next article is the t-shirt from Call to Action Day and a picture of me, with one of the beautiful people we volunteered with, James. This article is significant because it is the first time I had the opportunity to give back to my community. For Call to Action Day, I volunteered with adults who were very special. Many of them had downs syndrome, autism, personality disorder or social anxiety. These people are some of the most special people I have ever met in my life and they inspired me to be a better person and to remember to be grateful for what I have. I included this shirt in my portfolio, along with the picture, since I was so touched and inspired to continue volunteering with people that have touched my heart.
These items belong in this section because these types of people are not always seen with respect or treated in a positive way. As a class, we respected each and every person and we loved to learn about who they were as people not what they were defined as. I specifically connected to James, who not a lot of our class really was comfortable working with. He is in a wheelchair and has no ways of communicated besides through his smile. Instead of being scared, or nervous around him, I was rather intrigued and wanted to make sure he felt loved and apart of the entire day with the activities.

Hallmark Three: We educate for and act on behalf of justice and peace in the world
Another article I have is, a Bay Area Pet Fair map. This map is significant of me venturing out for the first time up here at college. It also resembles the first time my boyfriend and I went out together that was not within the two miles north and south of campus. I included this is my portfolio because it was a day that helped me remember to give back. I also was reassured that everyone deserves a second chance and to not give up on anyone or anything. This day we volunteered with animals who were given up and needed to be adopted. Also it was a donation center for animal shelters and animal rescue centers. Animals, are extremely dear to my heart, and being able to make a difference and receive information and then explain it to others was a blessing.
This map of the pet fair, belongs in this section since I learned so many things about homeless animals, shelters and the people that volunteer with them. After I received this information, I came back to campus and asked people if they had any money to donate to certain shelters and I explained why it is important to adopt animals rather than buy them from stores or from breeders. Animals are sometimes forgotten about and they deserve to have justice in this world. By speaking up for them, the world can be a more loving place.

Hallmark Four: We commit ourselves to community service
The next article is a lanyard from volunteering in the Tenderloin during Halloween. This was an amazing opportunity to volunteer with underprivileged kids who just wanted to celebrate something they love. This article is significant since it represents a part of me. I not only had a chance to volunteer but I had an amazing time doing it. I had more fun this day than I do when I go and hang out with my friends. I never realized how much I value community service until I finished this day. I was hungry, sweating and utterly exhausted yet while playing games with the families, none of those thoughts ever crossed my mind. I included it in my portfolio since it is something I am proud of. I am proud to have given up my first college Halloween night, to spend it with those who may not have been able to celebrate if we had not been there.
This article belongs in this section since it is all about giving back and participating in community service. By giving up one of my favorite holidays, it proved my commitment to serving others. I was not expecting a pat on the back afterwards but did it rather for myself and to prove to myself that helping others is so much more beneficial for me than participating in activities that only benefit myself. Volunteering is a hard task but being committed to volunteering is even harder. This event helped me understand about myself, and my willingness to give back.

Hallmark Five: We embrace the gift of diversity
My next article is a flyer from Argo U-Nite. This flyer signifies the Halloween costume contest event. It was a night where everyone came together and dressed up as their favorite alter egos. It was such a fun night where we all bonded together. They gave out prizes and best dressed, with a prize of $50 went to my good friend Isaac. He was dressed as the boy from ET with ET in his basket on a bike. I included this article in my portfolio since it was a night of bonding and love amongst all of us. We all were one and just laughed the entire night away.
This flyer belongs in this section since no one ever judged the other one this night. It did not matter what someone wore, how they acted or danced or even if they just did not want to involve themselves in the activity we all stuck by one another. We spread the love instead of laughing at someone for being themselves. We embraced every single person and had a way with one another.
Hallmark Six: We create community among those with whom we work and with those we serve

Hallmark Six: We create community among those with whom we work and with those we serve
My next article is a flyer from the Freshman research conference. The significance of this articles is to demonstrate the community coming together and sharing ideals. It was very inspiring day for me. I felt as if my hardwork and dedication to school had finally paid off. I always try my best to succeed and by being selected to present made me feel as if I truly can make a difference. I included this in my portfolio since it was such an important time in my college career. Believing in myself is something that is hard for me to do and by presenting I felt like I had a role.
This flyer belongs in this section since as a school we came together to work with one another and become even one bigger community. Community was demonstrated very largely throughout this day and this week. We all wanted to help one another, rather than turn away. It gave us new opportunities to witness what our peers had been working on the entire year. Working together and creating a bigger community is something this school along with myself am proud of. This activity made me more aware of how community should be, instead of what I may have perceived it to be.

Hallmark Seven: We develop holistic learning communities which educate for life
My next article is from the Internship and Community Engagement Fair. I attended this event and grabbed flyers from the groups which I found most beneficial towards me. Some of them include, Mentoring for Academic Success, the multicultural institute and Habitat for Humanity. The significance of these articles are to show the many various activities that are available through NDNU to engage within the community. I included these in my portfolio to demonstrate the activities that I wished to join but did not. I am disappointed that I did not follow through with my commitment to have a steady volunteering internship somewhere. But even though I may have failed myself, the attempt of going there to try and sign up is something I am proud of.
These articles belong in this section since as a community, we came together to educate one another. Each "small" community had some sort of tie to God and the bigger picture of the world. By explaining their higher forces of God and nature, and connecting it to their volunteer program, it was a very educating experience. Holistic learning from smaller communities became one large holistic community which helped educate one another.
